Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School
Welcome to OKESS
Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School (OKESS), established in 1937 as the first secondary school in the Ashanti Region, is a proud symbol of heritage and academic excellence. What began as Asante Collegiate with a handful of young students under the leadership of the late Rev. J. T. Robert has grown into one of Ghana’s most respected institutions of learning. With our motto, “Service to God and Humanity,” OKESS continues to nurture generations of “AHENEMMA” – princes and princesses committed to knowledge, discipline, and leadership.
A beacon of excellence, fostering dedication and excellence among our students.

Excellence in Education
Founded in 1937, Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School (OKESS) is the first secondary school in the Asante Region, known for its rich legacy and commitment to service.

Our Legacy
The legacy of OKESS is deeply rooted in its long-standing contribution to education and national development. From its planned relocation to Tafo in 1970 to its growth into a 168-acre modern campus, the school has remained a beacon of progress and resilience.
History and Founding
Founded as Asante Collegiate in July 1937, OKESS was the first step towards providing formal secondary education in the Ashanti Region. It was renamed in honour of Nana Sir Osei Agyeman Prempeh II, the Asantehene, who in private life was known as Obarima Osei Kyeretwie. His name continues to inspire the school’s pursuit of dignity and honour.
School Motto and Values
The school motto, “Service to God and Humanity,” is not merely a phrase but a living philosophy that shapes the conduct of students and alumni. It instils a sense of duty, humility, and responsibility, encouraging all members of the OKESS family to contribute positively to society.
Over the decades, OKESS has produced outstanding individuals in education, politics, business, medicine, and sports. Its relocation to the Tafo campus in 2004 marked a new era of progress, providing facilities that support modern learning, culture, and extracurricular excellence.
