Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School

About OKESS

Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School (OKESS), established in July 1937, is the first secondary school in the Ashanti Region and one of Ghana’s most historic institutions of learning. Originally founded as Asante Collegiate by the late Rev. J. T. Robert, the school began as a private boys’ institution before being absorbed by the Ministry of Education in 1958. Today, OKESS stands tall as a co-educational centre of excellence, proudly carrying the motto “Service to God and Humanity”. Students and alumni, affectionately called Ahenemaa (Princes and Princesses), embody this philosophy in academics, sports, leadership, and service.

Who We Are

Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School (OKESS) stands as a beacon of excellence, rooted in a rich legacy. Founded in July 1937, it holds the distinction of being the first secondary school in the Asante region. Initially known as Asante Collegiate, it emerged under the guidance of the late Rev. J. T. Robert, nurturing a small cohort of male students. Transitioning from private management to governmental oversight in September 1958, the school found its permanent home in Dichemso in September 1968. Renamed in honour of Nana Sir Osei Ageyman Prempeh II, Otomfuo, the Asantehene, who bore the private name Obarima Osei Kyeretwie, the institution embarked on a journey of academic and cultural enrichment.
